Avène B-Protect is a tinted SPF 50+ that I wore all summer. It's not bad, but it's not a product I'll buy again either, and here's why.

What the brand says

  • Optimal UVB and UVA protection thanks to the Sunsitive® filter combination.
  • A lightly tinted formula with micro-encapsulated pigments that even out the complexion and give a radiant finish.
  • A bare-skin feel: almost invisible, non-greasy, non-sticky and quickly absorbed.
  • For sensitive skin on the face and neck, non-comedogenic and developed to minimise the risk of allergic reactions.

According to the French pharmacy register Vidal, this product was discontinued in May 2025, so it can now only be found while stocks last.

My experience

Not bad. It gives just the right coverage for summer: the skin looks more even and redness is slightly masked, though it doesn't disappear.

The problem is that it dries out my face. During the day it starts clinging to dry patches and then you can see I'm wearing “something”. Because of that I can't top it up during the day, and for a sunscreen that's a big downside.

It's also important to know this is a chemical SPF. The formula contains chemical filters alongside titanium dioxide, which generally doesn't suit my rosacea skin best. That's why today I choose mineral sunscreens.

Who is it for

For normal to combination skin that tolerates chemical filters well and wants a lightly tinted SPF for summer. If you have dry skin or rosacea, or need an SPF you'll reapply several times a day, look for something else.

Frequently asked questions

Is Avène B-Protect a mineral SPF?

No. It contains chemical UV filters alongside titanium dioxide, so it's not for anyone looking for purely mineral protection.

Does Avène B-Protect cover redness?

A little. It's lightly tinted and gives me just the right coverage for summer, but it doesn't fully cover rosacea redness.

Can Avène B-Protect be reapplied during the day?

Not for me. After the first layer it starts to cling to dry patches, so I don't top it up.
