jane iredale HydroPure Color Correcting Serum: a green serum that calms redness
Rating 3.5/5: helps with redness, dry skin only

Green redness correctors are my weak spot, but after Erborian CC Red Correct I became careful. jane iredale HydroPure Color Correcting Serum is a mineral alternative I tried on my rosacea-prone skin.
What the brand says
- A hybrid of makeup and an ultra-hydrating serum with a sheer green tint that visually neutralises mild to moderate redness. It's worn under foundation.
- 2% hyaluronic acid for hydration, CoQ10 as an antioxidant and allantoin to soothe.
- Olive squalane for the barrier, with calendula, algae, willow bark extract and aloe.
- Mineral pigments in encapsulated liposomes, dewy finish.
- No SPF, not vegan, and the brand points out it isn't meant to treat skin conditions.
My experience
It nicely neutralises redness. Not fully like Erborian CC Red Correct, but it helps, and without my skin being redder afterwards. For me that matters more than stronger coverage.
The hyaluronic acid gives the skin a plump look, and CoQ10 is an anti-ageing bonus. Overall I find jane iredale good mineral makeup for sensitive skin.
Paired with the HydroPure Tinted Serum it evens out the skin tone nicely, but the tinted serum gave me papules and pustules, so I'd rather pair the green one with a different foundation.
The downside: completely dry skin only. If the skin isn't fully dry, the serum pills. So I wait until my moisturiser has completely sunk in.
Who it's for
For sensitive skin and rosacea with mild to moderate redness, especially if the chemical SPF in CC creams makes you react. If you need heavy redness coverage, it won't be enough on its own. Rating 3.5/5.

About the brand jane iredale: sensitive skin and rosacea
jane iredale is an American mineral makeup brand founded by Jane Iredale and based in Massachusetts. It calls itself "the skincare makeup": formulas with mineral pigments and skincare ingredients, cruelty-free (recognised by PETA and Leaping Bunny). For sensitive skin and redness the most interesting line is HydroPure, a tinted serum and a green colour-correcting serum with hyaluronic acid and CoQ10.
My experience is solid: the HydroPure green serum neutralises redness nicely without leaving my skin redder afterwards, and the tinted serum is light and weightless. Both have to go on completely dry skin, and as a tint I still prefer Chanel Water-Fresh Tint. A good choice if you want mineral makeup for reactive skin.
Patents and testing (according to the brand): jane iredale doesn't cite patents or clinical tests with subject numbers for the HydroPure serums. The brand says it is the makeup line most recommended by dermatologists and plastic surgeons in the US, and that the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends seven of its SPF products.
Frequently asked questions
Does jane iredale HydroPure Color Correcting Serum cover redness?
It neutralises it nicely, but not completely. Erborian CC Red Correct covers more, but my skin was redder after it, so HydroPure is the better choice for my rosacea.
Is HydroPure Color Correcting Serum good for rosacea?
It helps with my redness and didn't irritate me. The brand says it's made for mild to moderate redness and isn't meant to treat skin conditions, so keep following your rosacea with a dermatologist.
Why does the HydroPure green serum pill?
For me it happens when I apply it on skin that isn't completely dry. When I wait for my moisturiser to sink in, it blends beautifully.
What should I wear over the green serum?
The brand recommends a foundation or mineral SPF on top, since the serum has no SPF. HydroPure Tinted Serum looks nice over it, but it gave me papules and pustules.
